I never understood what was the deal with pork, why some peoples are so adamant to the point of religious doctrine not to eat it.
The explanations never satisfied me.
But something hit me today while listening to some other somewhat related topics, and a possible explanation went off light a lightbulb in my head:
Perhaps at certain times, certain groups were secretly passing off human flesh as 'pork'. Likely the remains of victims of sick evil shit
Those that knew this would avoid all pork, and thus avoid eating human flesh.
Find me a better explanation if there is one.
Why some don't eat pork
Semites have always had an obsession with cleanliness and the Jews in the iron age had so many restrictions it can make your head spin. They dont eat any predator animal on the logic than it scavenges for carcasses. Pigs likewise are scavengers, and their reputation probably has a lot to do with the fact that they roll in water/mud puddles to cool off. Also in a middle eastern context the pigs may have been competing with humans for food at the time the law was made.
