- Use strenght. If a guy can use a better gas tank to beat you. Why cant you use strenght? Use better positioning. Instead of fighting for oppenings. Make your oponent fights for!

The only recomendation i can give is to try this against stronger adversaries. They will make you fight for every milimiter and test your ability to secure a position.

I swept this 5'10" 295 lb 'African-American' Black Belt today. They guy is an absolute beast; he pops in once a week and crushes everyone including my instructor.

I was really focusing on holding my ground, and he started thrashing around in my butterfly guard, I shot underneath for the SLX which I've been practicing for the past month, and swept him easily. I chased after him and jumped on his back but it all went downhill from there... He paid me back by making me tap from side-control 6 times.

I got 1 sweep, he got 6 taps, yet it was a moral victory for me.

Good advice. My point is that relying on surprise, trickery, flexibility, speed and strength are all equally technically unsound. I've made a habit of rolling very light, but get people with surprise and trickery, but I now realize that won't bring me high-success against Black-Belt level opponents.

Rolled no-gi with a brown belt last night who's also a judo 4th dan. Held my own, got swept a couple times, but managed to pass his guard and get side control twice. escaped 2 armbars and an omaplata attempt. He went for a front choke but gave up cuz he said my neck was too thick. Didn't get tapped so I chalk this up to be a small personal victory. Yay!
