YOGA

Postby theraskal » Thu Aug 03, 2023 5:34 am

a thread to share your thoughts or media about Yoga

I am careful concerning promises of miracles in alt.med, prayer, and/or practices like Yoga/TaiChi. I do believe that some can/will experience healing while others may not. It can help but it's also the case that there is no escaping that suffering and aging is a part of life and the human experience.

what I can say is that Yoga has helped me to manage health-related suffering and so I believe that the practice can be beneficial. I have a history of advance stage cancer diagnosis and related health issues, having cause to visit the hospital for heart-issues as late term effect of high-dosage radiation treatments as example and covid was particularly challenging landing me in the ER and during such experiences the things I learned in Yoga practice helped me to not panic and maintain some level of control, even talking my way into being allowed to go home after the ER doctor told me "I have NEVER let a patient go home in your condition....your Heart is Bad and your Lungs are the WORST I've seen".....and when I got home where I was more comfortable those Yoga lessons helped me in the "touch and go" healing process.....

Yoga is awesome.

Be wary of fake gurus, but I think the ideas that its a gateway to the occult or satanism etc is way overblown.

Yoga is great for physical health and stress reduction and mind awareness 100%

The best yoga of course, is with baby goats. But everybody knows that

Didn't know you've dealt with cancer/radiation. I've seen that before, not pretty. How is your health today?

Other options besides goats to do your yoga.

Ujjayi breath is the wrong breath for an asana practice.

People should do a 4 part breath and focus on bandha engagement at the end of their exhales.

Ujjayi breath is for long distance running and combat sports, not for yoga/meditation.

I'm a simple creature. I just do a simple method of taking reasonably ambitious inhalations and exhalations and not sure if I should attempt to over-complicate matters with disruptive visualizations and complex methods

The very fact that we can switch from conscious breathing, back to unconscious breathing, as we please (but unconscious is usually the dominant) is a metaphor for life itself.

I trust penxv about the techniques
