Hey all
I will admit I have never been a good reader - my attention strays far too easily, lol. I've read a nice share of books but certainly no great wealth of libraries.
Yet among the few I have read, the ones of Hermann Hesse had possibly the greatest affect on me. Strangely, I keep meeting people who also say the same thing, that at least 1 book of Hesse had rocked them to their core at some point in their life. I even know a dude who changed his name in connection to a Hesse tale.
Although I totally should read more, I have only read Damien, and Siddhartha. I started Steppenwolf and made about half way but as with so many books I never finish. Damien is the book that fucked me up, I was maybe 17 or 18. It is a simple but profound tale. Yet fans I've met say other of his works are even better.
Anyways, it seems to be a simple fact that the writings of Hermann Hesse have captured something or touch some nerve in the collective unconscious... something about it is echoing Truth.
So today I sit down for work and start following some conspiracy trail but instead feel the need for something positive. I don't know where to look, so I hack out some cheesy search terms and BAM I get a whole pile of Hermann Hesse audio files.
Motherfucking jackpot, lol
I may never be a good reader but I can listen to things for hours on end while working. Oh the pile of good days ahead as I wonder through these files.
This was the first one I clicked on.
It is 2 excerpts; one about trees, and then a passage from Siddhartha.
The one about trees is AWESOME:
(* starts at 0:40)
Hermann Hesse (audio files)
Here is a fancier production with the same passage about TREES:
Fantastic
Fantastic
do you prefer the woman's voice, or the man's voice for narration of this text?
I find the second one overdone.
If Hesse's writings are so good, why the need to add dramatic music and glossy images?

Internet can be great sometimes:
When Hesse was asked: "What is most important in life?", he answered:
"Crush your enemies. See them driven before you. Hear the lamentations of their women."
lol j/k
Seriously, this was his answer:
"Well, if we don't know, let's ask Confucious. Confucious answered the question with one sentence: 'To be faithful to one's self, and good to others.' And this, I would say, is a great principle in life."
'To be faithful to one's self, and good to others.'
hmm.

holy fucking hell there are a lot of ace quotes in that series.
One after the other, its amazing. I wanted to stop and type each one but there are too many to count plus I have work to do, lol
Get in a light trance, enjoy a cup of tea or a spliff or whatever and enjoy this, it is totally great
Very good. Read der steppenwulf when I was like 15. Siddharta is good and so is Damien. I'd recommend Narcissus and Goldmund to any young man.
I was like 75% through the Steppenwolf audio and I forgot about it, lol
Will have to go back. The same thing happened when I tried to read the book
maybe its not that good, lol
I know a dude out here who actually changed his name to Demian. I asked him if it had anything to do with Hesse's book. His face went strange and he said 'yes'. I didn't probe any deeper.
