An interesting discussion on the idea of motherlands I came across:
Motherlands
I will listen.
Perhaps preemptively, I have been thinking about this a lot lately so thanks for the thread.
Considering how the whole idea of ethno-states have been drilled into our heads as being something horrible, racist, xenophobic, etc. Horror stories of the Germans wanting a German Fatherland, terrorizing us with mantras of 'white supremacy', meanwhile promoting multiculturalism and diversity, flooding countries with strong cultural roots with masses of foreigners and new languages and religions.
If you have a problem with this sudden hyper-diversity ideology you are shamed and demonized... and so no one is able to properly discuss where this is taking us? What are costs/benefits? What is gained vs what is lost?
The idea of cultures being literally wiped out in my lifetime by sheer immigration and diversity quotas is really bizarre. Most European countries it seems are already completely different that they were when I was younger in the 70's/80's. Even Canada for me has really lost its identity, whatever culture we had is so thin now, basically replaced with a national culture that revolves around multiculturalism, lol
Will watch. Thanks Luigi

I would not be opposed to a POTUS YANG:

"The English Dictionary, Like the English Constitution, is the creation of no one man, and of no one age: it is a growth that has slowly developed itself adown the ages; its beginnings lie far back in times almost pre-historic. And these beginnings themselves, although the English Dictionary of today is lineally developed from them, were neither Dictionaries, nor even England"
"The English language, so vast, so sprawling, so wonderfully unwieldy, so subtle, and now in its never-ending fullness so undeniably magnificent==is in its essence the language of invasion......the ancestors of all who ever lived there first arrived by sea from beyond, bringing with them their customs, their looks----and their languages.
Of the gigantic amassment of words that make up the stock of the English language----the huge majority were conceived or otherwise made whole through the good offices of outsiders, visitors, or invaders...."(continues on with the Invasion of the Roman Legions and Establishment of Christianity)

The above Book, a captivating read, is an example to support my ideas concerning the organic nature of "culture" and the historic, and most likely, future reality of human migration and social change.
since my time on the OG and the now mysteriously vanished EvilYoshida forum I held the position of "flow with the go" neutrality based on my avid book reading habit leading me to the conclusion that the history of the humanity is one of migration. People will simply go where there is the better opportunity and there they will add to the current culture their own contributions creating a new culture.
of course the story of humanity is not one of straight-line smooth sailing....and there will be clashes.....dark-ages......times of renaissance and enlightenment......and the more LEISURE people can enjoy the more they can devote to thinking and being creative if they are of the character to do so.....
and so I get the impression that the concept of "culture" is in the imagination of the current generation as it lives at that time, for when one looks at the history of maps they will observe how borders have changed and new countries/civilizations fallen and formed.....
that being said, I also understand those who wish to preserve what they have created and since I think Downton Abbey is probably the best series ever, I'm kind of a fan of romanticized Victorianism myself and am not opposed to promoting the British Standard while promoting a good quality of life for the peasants
