Media Propaganda

Postby IDL » Wed Jun 24, 2015 9:37 pm

I find one of the biggest stumbling blocks when talking to people is that they believe that the mass media is looking out for them, are just profit driven (not political), wouldn't be engaging in deception, or in general would not be part of the establishment.

I'm making this thread to contain some information that might help show that they are very much part of the control network, and that they are very manipulative, so if anyone comes across good examples this thread can act as a collection.

For videos, maybe add a little blurb on what it is.

Operation Mockingbird, which is nice because it's public record and not denied (for those who like appeals to authority)

"Operation Mockingbird was a secret campaign by the United States Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) to influence media. Begun in the 1950s, it was initially organized by Cord Meyer and Allen W. Dulles, and was later led by Frank Wisner after Dulles became the head of the CIA. The organization recruited leading American journalists into a network to help present the CIA's views, and funded some student and cultural organizations, and magazines as fronts. As it developed, it also worked to influence foreign media and political campaigns, in addition to activities by other operating units of the CIA."

Programming the Nation? is a 2011 feature social documentary written, produced and directed by Jeff Warrick. The film revisits the alleged history, research, implementation, and potential effects of subliminal programming in American mass-media, including interviews with Noam Chomsky, Amy Goodman, Dennis Kucinich, Eldon Taylor, Wilson Bryan Key, and other authors and experts in the field of advertising, psychology, music, film, politics, and military weaponry.

Edward Bernays published the book 'Propoganda' in 1928 in which he said:

"The conscious and intelligent manipulation of the organized habits and opinions of the masses is an important element in democratic society. Those who manipulate this unseen mechanism of society constitute an invisible government which is the true ruling power of our country. ...We are governed, our minds are molded, our tastes formed, our ideas suggested, largely by men we have never heard of. This is a logical result of the way in which our democratic society is organized. Vast numbers of human beings must cooperate in this manner if they are to live together as a smoothly functioning society. ...In almost every act of our daily lives, whether in the sphere of politics or business, in our social conduct or our ethical thinking, we are dominated by the relatively small number of persons...who understand the mental processes and social patterns of the masses. It is they who pull the wires which control the public mind.”

A little more about him:

Edward Louis James Bernays (/bərˈneɪz/; German: [bɛɐ̯ˈnaɪs]; November 22, 1891 − March 9, 1995) was an Austrian-American pioneer in the field of public relations and propaganda, referred to in his obituary as "the father of public relations".[1] He combined the ideas of Gustave Le Bon and Wilfred Trotter on crowd psychology with the psychoanalytical ideas of his uncle, Sigmund Freud.

He felt this manipulation was necessary in society, which he regarded as irrational and dangerous as a result of the "herd instinct" that Trotter had described.[2] Adam Curtis's award-winning 2002 documentary for the BBC, The Century of the Self, pinpoints Bernays as the originator of modern public relations, and Bernays was named one of the 100 most influential Americans of the 20th century by Life magazine.[3]

Good topic. I remember reading not too long ago that every major media outlet in America is owned by 6 companies. Its really not hard to see how immensely influential a small group of people can be when they have control of the machine.

This video is a fun one that can be shared with anyone. It shows the power of the green screen and reminds you to think twice about what you see on TV and movies

Yes thanks for the reminder, this article shows that as of 2012, 6 companies own the lions share.

"That's consolidated from 50 companies back in 1983"

This short clip from the Conan O'Brien show reveals an important concept in creating the illusion of diverse options.

Content feeds. Local radio stations and TV stations subscribe to content feeds. Even major news outlets subscribe to feeds from the Associated Press. Control of these feeds allows a few people to control the information piped out to the numerous providers.
