Boxing clinch Yay or Nay?

Thought this was interesting.

I always thought it was silly how much a typical referee in boxing interferes with the fight

Big time yay. That was real professional boxing back then.

What we see now resembles the amateur game of the past.

Back when they had 20, 25 and 45 rounds fights there was a lot more clinching as the boxers sought to get a rest. There were fights there was a lot of clinching without fighting. The longest fight was 110 rounds lasting 7 hours 19 minutes and I presume clinching was an important and necessary tactic???!!!

I can't remember who said it but I remember someone critiquing the Gracies back in the day, asking for no time limits etc.
They alluded to legendary fights over an hour etc, but criticized something like; 'if you need a whole hour to defeat one guy, then you're not that good!"

LOL its hard to argue with that

good vid! The Clinch is like any other kind of Grappling, it can be used actively/technically like Open Guard going for submissions....or a form of Neutralizing HUGGING Lay&Pray BORE fest

Active Clinch: Randy Couture vs Vitor Belfort

HUGGING Clinch: Sakuraba vs Royce Gracie....or perhaps going further back in time....John Lewis vs Carlson Gracie Jr

would like to also contribute vid example of GrecoRoman Wrestling to this thread which shows how physical and rough it can get and is something boxers should familiarize themselves with in order to improve their effectiveness in the clinch:

Foy had only been learning Greco for 6 months and had to borrow another competitors shoes prior to that match, he went on to defeat Randy 11 times without losing a point

Blacks are superior
