Notice the cut that forced the stoppage was very slight by modern UFC standards. Today they let the athletes roll around indefinitely in buckets of their own gore. Back then EF had very similar standards to boxing. EF promoter John Peretti joined UFC later on after EF went out of business and brought the standardized weight classes, mandatory rounds and gloves over with him.
Those early UFC events that Peretti produced, UFC Brazil, 17 and 18, were probably the early high water mark for that company imho,. Peretti knew the sport world wide and was a great match maker. Sadly the US cable ban forced a budget crunch and PRIDE cherry picked nearly all of the top fighters from the roster after these events.
