That's great!!

I remember Smith as the guy who changed UFC from Mark Coleman GnP to striking arts... but never knew how good he really was. I was always impressed with how relaxed/composed he was

Good fight. Hoost has such a weird style but so scary. I still don't understand how Sapp beat him!

- Smith beat my man-crush Coleman. Hoost was a great fighter.
Maybe he was too war torn(spelling) when he faced Sapp?

I saw Mo Smith's first pro kickboxing bout at a little venue in New Westminster BC called the Royal Towers Hotel. The Smith wiki entry lists the fight as having taken place in Surrey BC but it was definitely in the neighboring city of New West. It was for a light heavyweight title and Mo lost a decision to local champ Tony Morelli. He made a very good account of himself and went on to defeat Morelli and take the title later on in a rematch. This fight was back in around 1982, and the venue was tiny.

Smith had already won the Battlecade Extreme Fighting heavyweight title at that point by knocking out Carlson Gracie student Marcus Silveira. That was the real breakthrough for kickboxers in big time mma. I had seen that event and was quite optimistic that Smith could beat Coleman at the time.

Wow I didn't know that at all, that is wild I will have to check that out 100%. Sounds like a badass fight

Cool you got to watch him live back in the day. You've been a fight fan for some time, eh?
Or is that just part of your 15 year long forum troll character?
