Luke Rockhold vs. Chris Weidman 2 targeted for UFC 230

A rematch between Luke Rockhold and Chris Weidman is being discussed for UFC 230 on November 3rd in New York.

By Harry Davies Jul 23, 2018

A rematch between two former UFC middleweight champions is in the works for UFC 230 on November 3rd, as Luke Rockhold is slated to fight Chris Weidman on the card.

Brett Okamoto of ESPN first reported the matchup. The two first met back at UFC 194 in December 2015, when Rockhold defeated Weidman to end his title reign and become the new middleweight champion on the night.

A rematch was then booked for UFC 199 the following June, but a neck injury meant Weidman was out of the fight, and the title would change hands yet again when Michael Bisping filled in on short notice and knocked out Rockhold out in the first round.

Rockhold (16-4) hasn’t fought since February and is recovering from a shin injury he sustained in May that required a fair amount of stitching. The 33-year-old has only fought three times since defeating Weidman back in 2015, going 1-2 with his last win being a second round stoppage over David Branch in September 2017.

Much like his foe, Weidman (14-3) has only fought three times since his loss to Rockhold, also going 1-2 in the process. After consecutive defeats to Yoel Romero and Gegard Mousasi, “The All-American” revived his UFC career with a third round submission win over Kelvin Gastelum in July 2017. A “one-in-a-million” thumb injury has kept Weidman sidelined since that win last year.

UFC 230 will take place at Madison Square Garden in New York, New York on November 3rd. Only one fight has been made official for the card, a middleweight contest between David Branch and Ronaldo Souza.

If the Chris wins some portion of the rematch, you may as well consider it a victory for him because he most certainly will

and yeah I'd expect the fight to go the same way as their first fight and Rockhold's fight with Branch
