The animal lord/lady motif is attested commonly across Eurasia and apparently elsewhere as well. There are prehistoric clay sealings/seals from Iran and Mesopotamia depicting it, its in Europe as Cornulos and Tapio, and in India you see it in early depictions of Shiva. You see female equivalents such as Artemis, Diana, Mieleki, and the ancient snake woman figures of Crete. Also note that snakes protected farmers' foodstock from rodents and so were seen as protective spirits which could be sent to kill the rodents. Baltic people still see snakes as protectors of the house and in Dharmic religions they set statues of nagas(cobras) at the entrances to temples. I don't really twitter much and if I do its usually about kickboxing.
