Hey all

Surprised this hasn't come up much before, I know a bunch of posters here all gots kidz

A tricky, never ending and monstrously complex assignment that few of us ever have any idea of until we're waist-deep in it, lol. Many unforeseen questions and challenges, hopes, fears, successes, failures, lows, highs, and other unexplainable shit that only other parents would understand

Dealing with schools/academia
Styles of parenting
What to teach them?
Socializing
Feeding them
Effects of Media/Internet
Puberty
Teen years
Preparing for future
Bullying
ADD, etc
Spiritual matters/religion
Other parents/kids
Video Games/ipads/internet generation
Geo-political situation/Future
Balancing the responsibility with spouses/ex-spouses
Divorce
Illness
Porn
Homework
Drugs/Alcohol
Driving
Leaving home

I could go on

My daughter turns 13 next month, I am breaking new territory, lol Son is 8. I see many friends with kids, all with their own individual challenges, some big some small etc but it ain't easy

This is a thread to discuss, share, complain, inspire, support... basically to all the parents in the house, I challenge you all to make a simple pledge here with us to simply try to do the best we can, and not lose sight if this very important responsibility that rests in our hands. None of us know what we're doing, all of us will stumble, but lets do our best regardless for these awesome and precious little people divinely set into our lives

Here is a great tune about Generation Z...

A bit cynical for my tastes, but wth can you blame them?

I grapple a lot with the fact that my kids will grow up knowing that I believe in shit that mainstream tells them is crazy. Will they believe more in me, or the status quo?

Also my daughter is so much like me its scary. I can only hope she inherited my luck, or I will be hella worried in her late teens/early 20's lol

I have 2 friends with Autistic kids, and man do I admire their patience and strength

I know another neighbor girl who used to be an amazing little kid full of life and widsom, but then the schools told the parents she didn't fit the academic mold so they put her on drugs and now she's all fucked up. Makes me sad

I would kill for her. I would die for her, and she has turned out really really awesome.

I think just listen and try to understand what they're all about, without being afraid to lay it down if they get out of line.

You do that, show them you really mean it and love them, and that's good enough. There's no blueprint. It totally depends on the situation.

That's about all. Peace out.

PS - I am super grateful for my kid. She's awesome.

Start now. They are starting so early nowadays.

13?

Have your wife have a talk about sending nudes if you haven't already.

My friend's daughter was red headed, tall and lanky. Between 8th and 9th grade she really blossomed. She made the cheeerleading team, Her dream. A football player started showing her some attention. Talked her into snap chatting her boobs. She got kicked off cheerleading team. Coach made her stand up in front of her team and apologize first though. The whole school found out by day's end. She is no longer in the 'in crowd' and considered a whore.

Nothing happened to the football player who pressured her into it and told her private business.

That one split second decision changed that girl's life.

^ good advice. I have already discussed internet/social media posting but can not be forgotten, this should be discussed often as the teen years approach (she has not 'blossomed' yet...)

Funny, your story reminded me of an Archie comic I once saw, almost word for word.
weird
