Some vids behind one of the more famous names in the sport from what I gather:

GUY MARTIN

What kind of person chooses to do this? I find it far more incomprehensible than MMA

(not in any order, just random grabs):

Total Deaths in this race: 252

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_S ... fatalities

I don't think these are even counting 'practice' races. I just finished the documentary, 1 died just practising for time trials.

THERE ARE CASUALTIES EVERY YEAR

WTF

here are the counts, but this does not count deaths of race officials, bystanders/spectators etc

2016 Fatalities; 4
2015 Fatalities; 3
2014 Fatalities; 5
2013 Fatalities; 1
2012 Fatalities; 2
2011 Fatalities; 6
2010 Fatalities; 4
2009 Fatalities; 2
2008 Fatalities; 1
2007 Fatalities; 1
2006 Fatalities; 2
2005 Fatalities; 9 (11 if you count 1 Marshall + 1 spectator)
2004 Fatalities: 5
2003 Fatalities: 2
2002 Fatalities: 4
2000 Fatalities: 5
1999 Fatalities: 5

"Martin crashed at high speed when leading the 2015 Ulster Grand Prix Superbike race in August. On the final lap, being pursued by Bruce Anstey, he left the course at Ireland's Corner, fracturing thoracic vertebrae, his sternum and a number of ribs and his throttle hand, requiring steel rods to be inserted into his back and a pin in his hand."

Here is a really great talk/presentation by a Road-Bike Race MEDIC who specializes in attending these events to provide medical care to these guys. They use SPEED BIKES to get to the crash-victims as soon as possible, fascinating

He makes a pretty entertaining/funny presentation on something that is really not so funny. Entertaining juxtaposition

I always find medics/EMT people to be real heroes.

It's an amazing race, there's another great documentary on it called Closer to the Edge.

Could only find an Italian version on youtube.

But the English version can be viewed here.
